Music Video Project

For our music video project we decided to replicate the Stressed Out video by twenty one pilots. We wanted to recreate the childish and at sometimes scary vibe that the original video captured and I think we did a good job. Staying true to the original video was a goal of ours because we were doing a replication and not our own thing.

We were brainstorming ideas on what videos to do and we wanted to do something straightforward but make it look appealing. One of my group mates came up with the idea of doing Stressed Out because the video is filmed in a residential suburban area and we had good locations to film that video in. My teammates Andrew and Caitlyn worked hard on storyboarding in the beginning and we got through the storyboarding phase quickly. My teammate Maicy and I completed the google slideshow that showed our locations for filming. Pre production was simple because everyone was focused and got their work done in class.

We were able to start filming very quickly and we were one of the first groups in the class to start filming. This helped us in the long run because we had more time to edit. We filmed over two days at two separate locations. We filmed the first day in the neighborhoods off of Harold adjacent to Santa Fe Trail Middle School. The next day of filming we filmed in Andrew's neighborhood and inside of his house. The parts of the video where Alex is standing in front of a black background, we filmed with the green screen in Mr. Cooper's room to capture those moments. Filming went well because we were proactive and started filming early.

The editing process took a long time. Sequencing all the clips we had to the music was challenging at some points. Andrew also took the time to edit the scenes with the black background. When editing these scenes; Andrew gave Alex red eyes, a feature that stood out in the original video. It took us around 2 weeks to complete the editing process. While it took the longest out of all the steps we took in making the video, I'm glad that we made a video that we can be proud of.

I wouldn't change much about the process of making our music video. Clear communication on filming dates could've been improved, but other than that this process went very smoothly. I think that filming early and getting pre production done fast and efficiently is something I would like to carry into the next project. If my next group and I can pair fast and efficient pre production and filming and a clear filming schedule, then the next project should go just as well. I really enjoyed making this music video and this was a great start to the entertainment semester in video class.
