Procrastination is a Bliss: The Video Project
When making my self portrait, I wanted my personality to shine through so I decided to speak what was on my mind in front of the camera. In one take I think I adequately described things about me while being able to inject some humor into what I was saying along the way. I wanted to talk about my interest in theater because I'd like to have a career in acting one day and my job at Steak n' Shake was fresh in my mind so I decided to talk about that as well. Self portrait videos from my contemporaries impressed me. One of my favorite self portrait videos came from Malik Alexander, where he showcased his beat making skills. His video was shot from his point of view looking at his beat making device, so you go to see how fast his fingers were moving and how he was making his music. I liked doing this project because I got to show things about me as well as learn stuff about other people.
When making my self portrait I planned to make it seem unplanned. I wanted my video to be comedic in someway so I thought having my video shot on the bus by another person like I procrastinated on finishing the video. I tried to do a mid video interview like The Office or Parks and Rec does but I don't think I got that point across in my video. I also wanted to take the camera around and lightly roast people to add some more comedic appeal to my video. The way I shot my video was strategic but I could've portrayed what I was attempting to do a little bit better.
I hope people learn that I can be an entertaining on camera presence from this video. I know the camera work and other aspects of the video could have been better but I hope my personality carried the project enough to make it entertaining. I think the video shows that I'm also fairly good at improvising lines and shows that I can be quick witted. I like that the video was humorous (at least in my opinion) and I liked that the video looked fun. In the future I will focus on the cinematography as much as the content within the video.
